Part of Multilingual social marketing outlook: a planning method
Putting AI to work in multilingual social marketing one boxed task at a time
Assess bounded AI uses in multilingual social marketing through source control, human review, privacy, security, accessibility and rollback.
Multilingual social marketing AI applications should begin as bounded experiments. They may assist a task, but they do not prove language quality, cultural fit, accessibility, compliance or productivity. No model or supplier is recommended here.
What to take away
- Start multilingual social marketing AI as a bounded experiment with a manual baseline.
- Record inputs, source version, language variety, model version, reviewer, sample, acceptance rule and stop condition.
- Keep translation, subject, accessibility and privacy reviews separate rather than letting one reviewer replace others.
- Retain a manual publishing route so the AI step can be disabled without losing the record.
Put one task inside a controlled box
Choose a reversible job with a manual baseline. Four candidates are:
Task control record fields
- Permitted inputs
- Source version
- Target language variety
- Model or service version
- Output format
- Expected error classes
- Reviewer, sample, acceptance rule, stop condition
- checking whether an approved source claim appears in a working asset;
- generating a draft translation for professional review;
- flagging missing caption or alt-text fields for accessibility review;
- proposing moderation or research categories for an analyst to accept, change or reject.
Do not combine these into an autonomous campaign. For the chosen task, record the permitted inputs, source version, target language variety, model or service version, output format, expected error classes, reviewer, sample, acceptance rule and stop condition. A named owner makes the publication or audience decision.
Worked example: draft translation for review. The entries below are illustrative.
Field / Example entry
- Task
- Draft translation for professional review
- Inputs
- Approved English source post, version 3, no personal data
- Source version
- v3 approved at sign-off
- Target language variety
- French (France)
- Service or model
- DeepL Pro; alternative tested: Google Translate
- Output format
- Plain text draft, no publishing access
- Expected error classes
- Mistranslated claim, wrong register, omitted alt text
- Reviewer
- Named French localiser
- Sample
- 40 posts from last quarter, including 10 with regulated claims
- Acceptance rule
- Reviewer marks at least 95 per cent of sampled sentences acceptable and zero claim errors
- Stop condition
- Any claim error or two register failures
- Owner
- Social lead makes publication decision
Keep human decisions specific
A professional translator or localiser reviews meaning, terminology and register. A native-level reviewer assesses usage in the intended language-market context. A subject specialist checks regulated, technical or safety claims. An accessibility reviewer tests the final rendered format. One reviewer cannot silently replace the others.
Test language varieties represented by the actual approved task. Do not infer an individual's language, ethnicity, culture, literacy or vulnerability from a profile, name or location. Compare the assisted route with the manual process using the same content and acceptance criteria. Record review effort and material errors without announcing a gain before the evidence exists.
Control data, provenance and rights
The ICO's AI and data protection risk toolkit is designed to help organisations reduce risks to people's rights and freedoms. The ICO marks it under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, which received Royal Assent on 19 June 2025. Apply current qualified advice to the real data and purpose.
Create an input register: personal data, confidential client material, licensed copy, terminology. Add memories and reviewer comments. Confirm whether each item may be sent to the selected service, retained, reused for training, transferred or deleted.
UK government's copyright and AI consultation material notes continuing legal uncertainty around parts of AI and copyright. It is a policy and consultation record, not permission to use protected material.
Treat security and supplier change as test conditions
The NCSC's secure AI development guidelines cover secure design, development, deployment, operation and maintenance. For a buyer, useful checks include least-privilege access, asset inventory, logs, incident handling, update control and supplier dependencies. The guidance does not endorse a model.
Freeze the tested version and configuration. Re-run the acceptance set after a model, prompt, policy, subprocessor, data route or output format changes. Stop if output cannot be reproduced sufficiently for review, confidential data appears unexpectedly, bias testing fails, or an accessibility or claim error escapes the defined boundary.
Design the fallback first
Retain the last approved source and target assets, named human reviewers and a manual publishing route. The system owner can disable the AI step without losing the record or blocking correction. The CMA's current AI-agent consumer guidance discusses monitoring, human oversight and rapid correction for customer-facing use. It does not give legal clearance to a configured application.
Release only when translation, subject, accessibility, privacy, IP, security, advertising and consumer gates each pass. Otherwise the task stays on HOLD. The evidence requirement is documented acceptance results, reviewer sign-off and a reproducible record for every gate.
Before you act
- Choose one reversible task with a manual baseline.
- Name a single owner for the publication decision.
- Register all inputs and confirm permitted use.
- Freeze the tested model version and configuration.
- Re-run acceptance tests after any supplier or policy change.
- Keep an approved manual fallback route ready.
Common questions
What should be recorded before running a bounded AI task?
Record the permitted inputs, source version, target language variety, model or service version, output format, expected error classes, reviewer, sample, acceptance rule and stop condition. A named owner makes the publication or audience decision, and the task should not be combined into an autonomous campaign.
What gates must pass before release?
Release only when translation, subject, accessibility, privacy, IP, security, advertising and consumer gates each pass. Otherwise the task stays on HOLD. The system owner can disable the AI step without blocking correction.
